The start of the New Year is a time for reflection, assessment and inspiration. It is an opportunity, but the crux move is to take what we find, and motivate to take action and create change for the better.
At Recover, our mission is not only to create the best, most environmentally friendly and socially responsible products possible, but also to educate and inspire those around us to live and work for a sustainable tomorrow. As a company, we also take the New Year as a time to reflect, assess and be inspired. We do our best to learn as much as we can throughout the year, as every day we learn more, we are increasingly motivated to innovate, spread the word, connect community, and work together to address local and global challenges as individuals and as a collective team.
That’s why this year, Recover wants to further spread the spark of inspiration and education. Rather than letting New Year’s resolutions, opportunities and potential melt away as a mere January moment, throughout the entirety of 2018 we will be sending out Sustainability Tips every other week that empower our community to make choices for a better tomorrow every day, whether it’s sharing a quick snapshot of easy things you can do to make your life more eco-friendly, or passing along the reminder and more information on the garbage patch the size of Texas in the Pacific Ocean.
When it comes down to it, at Recover, a major goal of ours as individuals and as a company is to live more sustainably. So, here are five quick and easy Sustainability Tips to kick off 2018 right:
Studies show that going outside and exercising is not only beneficial for your physical health, but also for your mental health. Not to mention, powering your own transportation vs. getting in a car is taking action to address global climate change.
Last year, people in the United States alone used an estimated 50 billion disposable plastic water bottles (not including soda bottles, literally water bottles alone). We can do much better than that. Ditch the bottled water and pick up a Recover Canteen today.
Making conscious choices about acquiring items that are made to last and meant to be reused is the only way we will get to a sustainable tomorrow. The Recover Upcycled Tote is perfect for hitting the store, and can be reused over and over again… and for the gym, and much more too.
Conserving energy is an enormous step to working towards a sustainable tomorrow. While improvements and innovations of alternative forms of energy, such as that used by the biomass-powered facility Recover partners with in Guatemala, are well worth current work and investment, on an individual day to day, simply turning off your lights and unplugging appliances like the toaster when you leave your house every day can save large amounts of energy and money over the course of a year.
Bring your own coffee mug to your local shop on your morning stop. You most likely get a discount for doing so, and you’ll be reducing waste in landfills by not using a throw-away to go cup. Also, not to be abused, but most coffee shops will happily give your cup a wash for you- low maintenance, high class, happy planet.
When it gets down to it, the little things can make a big difference, it’s just making them happen. So, cheers to learning more, being inspired, and taking action in 2018! Look for our next Sustainability Tip on “What is Recycled PET?” in 2 weeks.
