At Recover, there is a why behind everything we do. Every choice matters, and we constantly work to improve our products in our mission to make the best, most environmentally-friendly and socially-responsible apparel possible. We work to have both local and global positive impact, which is why we recently established a new partner facility in Honduras. Due to its relative proximity to the US, this partner facility allows us to have a wider give-back reach while simultaneously minimizing carbon emissions of transport.
In 2019, we are expanding our manufacturing of Men’s, Women’s, Youth and Toddlers 50/50 Recover Tees to Honduras. With every made-in-Honduras Recover Tee sold, Recover will donate to World Vision’s Honduras Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) projects. Honduras WASH initiatives work with local communities to provide access to clean drinking water, and education about sanitation and hygiene in order to increase life expectancy and prevent the spread of disease. One Recover Tee doesn’t just mean 8 recycled plastic bottles out of our landfills, waterways, and backyards, it means environmentally impactful water savings in production, and now, clean water for people in need in Honduras. Every Recover product sold equals one day of clean water for one person.
Globally, billions of people lack access to safe drinking water and sanitation. The global challenge of clean water access primarily stems from increases in pollution, population, changing weather patterns due to climate change, deforestation, and a lack of sanitation infrastructure around the world. World Vision is a leading international nonprofit that works to bring clean water to one new person every ten seconds. In 2017 World Vision helped provide access to clean water for 3.2 million people, improve sanitation for 3.3 million people, improve hygiene for 3.9 million people, and form 6,605 water committees to ensure sustainability. The organization uses an integrated community engagement model, in which water projects are planned by local communities, and local community members are trained as mechanics to repair pumps when they break down. This focus on, engagement of, and empowerment of local communities builds long-term, sustainable solutions for clean water access around the world.
World Vision conducts bi-annual reports and in the most recent 6 month period in Honduras, World Vision facilitated 6,904 people gaining access to clean water, built 1,458 new and rehabilitated wells and water points, built 334 sanitation facilities, and built
932 household hand-washing facilities. Recover is now a part of this. We are adamant about giving back to the places where we are fortunate enough to work.
While supporting access to clean water in Honduras is new to Recover, working towards impactful water savings and reduction in water pollution is not. We recognize that water is fundamental to everyone, and Recover very intentionally makes choices to save water and use environmentally-friendly and socially-responsible processes in production, a paramount distinguisher between Recover and competitive brands. Since 2010, we have saved over 2 billion gallons of water. By using recycled cotton scraps for the Recover Tee, we eliminate dyes and chemicals from our process, which saves ten times the water and energy of a conventional shirt that is dyed.
New in 2019 from Recover Honduras will be higher quality, improved cut Recover tees. We’ve improved all quality, but kept the classic cut for the Men’s and Toddler’s tees and improved the women’s cut to be better fitting and more comfortable.
From establishing new partners, to water savings, to clean water access, to new cuts, there is a why behind everything we do… and on the Recover front, we're excited to share these new initiatives and product improvements with all of you!
