As part of our ongoing Sustainability Tips series, for Earth Month, we turned to our community members and ambassadors and asked them to share their go-to sustainability tips that help them live more eco-consciously! From creative repurposing hacks to avoiding single-use waste, the Recover community shared some great practical tips that make incorporating sustainable practices easy.

We’re excited to share their ideas, learn together, and hopefully inspire others to make eco-friendly choices, even on busy days!

Reusing Containers for Storage:

  • Reuse food containers like peanut butter jars for craft and home improvement supplies like crayons, beads, nails, screws, etc.

  • Reuse reclosable plastic bags, like those from tortillas or cotton balls, as snack bags or storage bags

  • Give plastic to-go containers and food containers (like Cool Whip tubs) a second life and use them to store leftovers, send meals home with family and friends, or pack a lunch for work or a day out

  • Reuse cloth bags that shoes, bags, or jewelry are packaged in to organize toys for the kiddos

Getting Creative with Repurposing:

  • Repurpose the plastic netting that produce is packaged in, like oranges or avocados, or extra yarn scraps to make dish scrubbers and sponges

  • Use old holey t-shirts to make reusable and washable cleaning rags, and old fleece fabric from sweatshirts for reusable and washable Swiffer pads

  • Reuse glass jars for drinkware, plant propagation, or for crafts such as candle making and vase painting

  • Cut the lids off of berry containers to make planters and trays, and use them to grow new plants

Ditching Single-Use:

  • Always keep reusable shopping bags in the car

  • Keep a set of clean, reusable silverware, plates, and bowls in your car for work or events for zero-waste meals on the go

  • Keep a handkerchief on hand to use instead of tissues

  • Bring reusable food containers to restaurants to package any leftovers

  • Bring your own reusable coffee cup when grabbing a coffee, and keep an extra clean one in the car, just in case

  • Wrap gifts in magazine paper, newspaper, or fabric scraps

  • Save and reuse shipping packaging, like boxes and packing supplies

Transportation:

  • Try to bike, walk, use public transport, or carpool whenever possible to reduce your personal carbon footprint!

Thank you to our community members and ambassadors for sharing these sustainability tips with us for Earth Month. Sustainability takes a collective effort, and we love to see the creativity and passion our community has when it comes to incorporating sustainability into their own lives.

Together, we’re helping the Earth Recover!
