FORECASTLE: The waterfront summer music festival that brings thousands of people together for a good time, all while protecting “The World’s Natural Awesome”
Here’s a Recover peak at Forecastle’s lineup this weekend, and a big shout-out to this festival’s forward thinking on sustainability…
With 100% Recycled Sustainable Recover apparel as official festival merchandise, a ReVerb program to ditch single-use plastic bottles, a PBR Trading Post that collects bags of recycling, a partnership with Clean Vibes to divert 70% of its waste, a PepsiCo Recycling Roadster that educates and inspires people to recycle, and a power choice for 100% renewables such as solar and wind, the Louisville, Kentucky Forecastle Music Festival is going to light up the stage this weekend not only with epic acts, but also with showstopping industry sustainability.
Since 2003, the nationally acclaimed Forecastle Festival has “aimed to offer equal parts music, art and environmental activism.” Hosted at the 85-acre Waterfront Park, the Ohio River and Louisville skyline will provide the backdrop of performances of such artists as Arcade Fire, Trampled By Turtles, Modest Mouse, The War On Drugs, T-Pain, Chris Stapleton and many more.
While Kentucky may be known for its bourbon (which does flow freely at Forecastle), this festival highlights a growing drive to be known for making having a good time part of a global solution, instead of a global problem. The rad lineup and cheering crowds of Forecastle shout that taking action by making simple, easy, and impactful choices is what makes sustainability happen.
Of the must-see artists, delicious food, outdoor recreation, and community atmosphere, Recover most wants to give a shout-out to the Forecastle Festival for putting Sustainability center stage. Forecastle takes direct action to reduce carbon emissions and landfill waste, sources power from renewables such as wind and solar, provides shuttles, free bike valet, recycling and compost, and has included such past speakers as Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (Riverkeeper) in the line-up to promote education about key environmental issues. The event also contributes $1 from every ticket sold to the Forecastle Foundation, a nonprofit that shines light on the world’s biodiversity hotspots and makes an impact by partnering with, and supporting like-minded organizations such as Kentucky Natural Lands Trust, Nature Conservancy, Guayaki Foundation, and FCD Belize.
The Forecastle Festival also consciously chooses Recover for 100% recycled apparel. This will be the 3rd year that Recover will be the Official Merchandise Partner of Forecastle Festival. We work with AC Entertainment, the concert promoter that also puts on Bonnaroo, High Water, and a number of other renowned events and concerts across the country.
A big thanks to Forecastle for leading the way in sustainable events and for now, see you there. We’ll be enjoying the music, art and activism at the Recover booth all weekend long!
