Happy Thanksgiving from Recover!  Whether you’re going big or low key, Thanksgiving is a day to check in right where you are, look at all the good things that surround you, and take a simple moment to enjoy being grateful for all of it.

Here’s what we’re thankful for, along with some tips and tricks for the holiday:

1. Family and Friends

Ultimately, family and friends are what it’s all about. Even if it’s just sharing a smile and saying hi to that someone we run into every morning en route to get coffee, building strong communities and working together for what’s important makes life better and more fun.

For Thanksgiving: We love getting outside (more below on that), playing yard games, watching the Thanksgiving day parade, laughing through a game of Taboo, and setting up and having ridiculous competitions such as pumpkin rolling relays.

2. Getting Outside

Getting outside is something we are overwhelmingly grateful for. Recreating and going for adventures small or big in the great outdoors makes you feel better physically and mentally, and has scientifically proven health benefits- as if that needed clarification.  The more the better we say!

For Thanksgiving: Look up a local “Turkey Trot”, plan a ride on a local trail, or rally for new territory and seek out an adventure you have yet to explore. Enjoy working up that appetite for all the good food to come!  We love a good turkey trot with family and friends and of course anything in Pisgah!

3. Really Good Food and Beer

Yum. Just love it! The more local and organic the better… making it happen to incorporate as much local and organic food (and beer) as possible results in big environmental benefits such as reduced carbon emissions and healthier waters, as a result of less transportation and return to growing without pesticides.

For Thanksgiving: For beer, we love our local Legion and Noda brews, the full lineup at Sierra Nevada is always a go-to particularly with their delicious seasonal ales, and Fonta Flora’s Blaze the Stratus, and Highland Brewing’s Cold Mountain never disappoint.

For good food, check out Vince’s Vegan Double Layer Pumpkin Cheesecake recipe and Kyle’s carrot soufflé recipe…

Carrot Soufflé
Ingredients:
1 tsp. Baking powder
3-4 cups cooked carrot
½ cup butter
⅔ cup sugar
1 cup milk
3 eggs
¼ tsp. Cinnamon
1 Tablespoon flour
1 tsp. Salt
Purée all ingredients in blender, put in casserole dish
Bake at 350 uncovered for 50-60 mins
4. Wild Places

The opportunity to breathe fresh air, hear free-flowing water, and explore awe-inspiring places is literally irreplaceable.  We are grateful for those wild places that allow us to both push ourselves on adventures, and to chill, with friends, family, or solo. The Recover’s Protect Our Parks initiative was established to help protect these wild places we all love, so check it out.

For Thanksgiving: Some of our favorite wild places include Pisgah National Forest, Bald Head Island, and the Broken Top wilderness area around Bend, OR.

5. Music

What would life be without music? Talk about something to be thankful for! The Recover Artist Development (RAD) program was created to showcase and support up-and-coming artists and to promote sustainability through their music. Recover also hosts RAD artist performances at our flagship store in Charlotte, in addition to enjoying music--- all the time... from drives to the mountains to days in the warehouse. Thank you music and all the artists that bring it to life!

Check our latest RAD playlist on Spotify including a bunch of our faves.

Oh, and one more thing… we are thankful for:

The fact that any and all of us can contribute to a sustainable tomorrow today.
Here are some...
Easy Thanksgiving Sustainability Quick Tips:
  • Avoid single use plates, napkins, silverware, etc. If you have a big crew and you’re struggling re: number of plates, etc. then have everyone bring their own. It turns out to be fun, and no one has to worry about mixing up their plate with someone else’s.
  • Dress with purpose: For Sustainable apparel the Recover Sport Polo is great for the holidays… all of Recover’s gear is environmentally friendly and socially responsible.
  • Compost your food scraps- it makes a big difference in terms of carbon emissions. Check out this How and Why to compost to learn more!
Most importantly, Happy Thanksgiving from Recover!
