We are committed to donating at least 1% of total sales to environmental nonprofits. 

1% For The Planet is a membership network that provides support to businesses and individuals to find and donate to high-impact environmental nonprofits.  The vision is this: businesses and individuals profit from the environment, so we should all be giving back to help protect it.  The resources that go into our food, our homes, our livelihoods, our adventures, our computers - everything is produced from environmental resources, which are limited and increasingly scarce.

Here’s how 1% For The Planet works: 1% For The Planet Business members such as Recover commit to donating 1% of their annual sales to environmental nonprofits.  Any individual can also become a member and commit to donating 1% of their salary.  It’s a relatively small amount that’s easy to commit to, and collectively it makes a big impact. Singer-songwriter Jack Johnson was one of the first individuals to sign up and more people are signing up every day- 1% makes it really easy to make a difference in protecting the environment.

The 1% For The Planet network’s 3,000 business members have donated over $270 million so far, collectively helping fund diverse and crucial work to protect our planet.  For example, Klean Kanteen supports NatureBridge, a non-profit that connects young people to the wonder and science of our world through environmental education.  Others give to clean water, biodiversity efforts, reforestation, holistic conservation in targeted regions, social and environmental justice- you name it.  Oftentimes, big impact happens at a local, grassroots level, and 1% helps facilitate partnerships between dollars and “do-ers” on the ground.  

At Recover, we believe first and foremost in supporting those doing significant work in our own backyard.  We support high impact nonprofits Catawba, Watauga, Green, and French Broad Riverkeepers, as well as Earth Share NC, a nonprofit that works on every aspect of the environment and environmental health you can think of by partnering with businesses statewide and bringing in more resources through employee engagement programs.  Riverkeepers, also known as Waterkeepers, are organizations that act as watchdogs and advocates for keeping local waterways clean, healthy, and safe for our communities. Water is something that we wholly depend upon, and yet it is a resource that is increasingly polluted and becoming more and more scarce. We also donate to World Vision, a proven nonprofit working to bring clean water access to those who need it worldwide. 

1% For The Planet works with its members to identify what’s important to them and next aligns them with nonprofit partners that have proven to be high-impact. It all started when two businessmen, Yvon Chouinard of Patagonia and Craig Mathews of Blue Ribbon Flies bonded over their love of the outdoors. Realizing it was their responsibility to protect the planet, they committed to give 1% of their sales back to the environment, whether or not the companies were profitable. Chouinard described, “The intent of 1% for the Planet is to help fund these diverse environmental organizations so that collectively they can be a more powerful source in solving the world’s problems.”

We achieve a lot when we work at it together. At Recover, we work for a sustainable tomorrow, today alongside people on the ground working every day to protect our planet.
