Driven to support Let Me Run, whether it’s a local 5k or the NYC marathon, Recover is ready to run with you this fall

It’s officially Fall, and to many, that means it’s finally time... to run.  As the leaves begin to rustle in autumn breezes, cooler temperatures invite all of us to get out on the trails, greenways, and streets to enjoy one of the simplest and easiest ways to live a healthy and active lifestyle: one of the rare activities that only requires our own two feet.

The runner’s high is certainly abuzz in the Recover office.  As we sign up for races and events this fall, it’s really all about breathing fresh air and enjoying running’s comradery, the personal satisfaction of setting goals, and at the end of the day, enjoying “getting it done”.  Amidst local events, Recover’s president and co-founder, Bill Johnston, is committed to running the New York City marathon for his first time on November 4th. In Bill’s commitment to train for and race the marathon, he set the goal to raise $5000 for Let Me Run, and for this week only from September 9 to September 16, Recover is donating 50% off sales on all Sport products to Let Me Run to reach the $5,000 goal.  Whether you’re an event, business, non-profit, or individual, we invite you to help us reach our goal by checking out our 100% recycled women’s, men’s, and youth sustainable apparel sport lines to support future generations’ opportunities to run, and build healthier communities.

Let Me Run is  a Charlotte-based non-profit that, through the power of running, inspires boys to be courageous enough to be themselves, to build healthy relationships, and to live an active lifestyle.  Using running as the vehicle to inspire, teach and reach boys through an integrated curriculum, the Let Me Run program breaks down destructive male stereotypes that often stand in the way of positive futures for boys and opportunities for them to be their best selves in the community. Twice a week for seven weeks, trained coaches guide teams through the program, designed to amplify confidence, self-expression, and respect for others. Each fall and spring season culminates in a 5k race that celebrates the boys’ emotional, social and physical growth.

Recover is proud to be an official merchandise partner of Let Me Run.  In Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 alone, Recover supplied 6,000+ race shirts to the boys participating and growing in the program across the country.  Each Recover Let Me Run shirt is made of 8 recycled plastic bottles and upcycled cotton, and is part of sparking connection, inspiration and integration of environmental education into the Let Me Run program.

When asked about his goal to fundraise for Let Me Run with the NYC marathon, Recover’s Bill Johnston commented that, “For me, combining that personal goal with benefiting the greater good just makes sense and gives me more drive to train. Let Me Run is such a great organization, encouraging boys to give back to community, live healthy lifestyles, and be comfortable in their own skin.  It takes a healthy hobby that I enjoy, and facilitates that outlet and experience for others. For me, running has been something in my life that has made me a better person, as weird as that might sound.  I’m healthier, and my mind is more clear across the board.”

Johnston continued that, “And the NYC marathon is simply a great opportunity to run a first full marathon.  I’ve run a dozen half-marathons over the years, and running a full is a good goal to personally work towards for me right now.  That goal of running is a great outlet physically and mentally. It gets the endorphins up, and it’s something you can do really easily.  When I’m travelling a lot for work, I don’t always have the opportunity to bring my mountain bike. One of my favorite things to do in a new city is to run.  Taking that philosophy, what better way to see New York City than to run the marathon? And supporting Let Me Run and kids running in the program along the way makes it that much better.”

So, get on the trail or road and be sure to visit your local running store or online to learn more about races and events in your area.  There’s a lot out there… in our backyard in North Carolina we’re lucky to have the Charlotte marathon, local brewery run club nights, and whitewater race series events.  When looking for events in your backyard and beyond, definitely keep your eye out for races that incorporate sustainability and promote community, such as the events put on by the Big Sur Marathon Foundation.  Recover is the official “Green Team” partner of the foundation, and all race and volunteer shirts and merch for their oceanside and wine country events are Recover.
