Named as one of the “Most Beautiful Marathons in the World'', we’re only a few short weeks away from the 2023 edition of the jam-packed Boulderthon weekend. This intentionally designed “boutique marathon experience” has a distance and entertainment for everyone as the weekend features urban amenities and energy with the natural backdrop and stunning views of the Rocky Mountain foothills. Recover is the proud merchandise partner of this bucket list event that is on pace to sell out again in 2023.

We were able to catch up with the Boulderthon crew during their busy ramp-up schedule to get the inside scoop on the upcoming race and how they are committing to a more well-rounded and sustainable running experience.

Tell us about Boulderthon. How did it start and how does it look today?

Boulderthon® was created by an avid New York Road Runners runner to spread the joy of marathons. We believe Boulder, one of the great running hubs of the country, deserves a world-class marathon series. Boulderthon started in 2021 with 1,800 runners, grew to 3,000 runners in 2022, and will host 8,000 runners this October 2023. We're the largest Colorado Fall Race and are the only Marathon with a Downtown Boulder Finish (and now start!)

What are some highlights of the race? What makes Boulderthon unique?

We have a distance for everyone! We have a Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K, 5k & Kids Run. We believe running is for everyone and our goal is to foster a love of running and a supportive community for all of our participants.

We're not just following the typical model for running races, but we're looking to optimize every single experience for runners. Our goal is to create a boutique race experience with the benefits of big city races. We look to infuse the Boulder community in everything we do, so all of our runners get to experience how incredible Boulder is.

On race day, runners can look forward to the "Strava Mile", an exclusive Strava segment available only on race day. The Mapleton Mile is the final straight-away stretch all races run and is sure to build up to an exciting and rewarding finish!

Why is sustainability important to Boulderthon?

Answer: As runners, we care deeply about the environment around us. It's no secret that putting on large events can have a significant environmental impact, and we want to reduce our impact as much as possible. We're serious about our Green Team on race weekend to make sure everything that can be recycled is, our medals are produced using 100% recycled medals, and we're thrilled to partner with Recover so that all of our race shirts are made with 100% recycled materials!

Why are you excited to partner with Recover on race merch?

Recover offers the highest quality merchandise in the most sustainable way possible. We could not be more excited to provide our runners with high quality and environmentally conscious race shirts and merchandise.

You can also check out Episode 33 of Recover’s “Be The Impact” Podcast where Boulderthon Founder and Race Director Phil Dumontet joins Bill and Adam to dive a little deeper into the evolution, story, and the desire to fill a need in the Boulder running community through the Boulderthon family of events.

If you are planning to participate in any of the Boulderthon distances, don’t forget to bring your old race shirts to the Recover booth so we keep them out of the landfill and back into our supply chain through our Closed Loop Program.
